The exciting feeling that comes with the start of the season
For weeks now, I have been feeling a particularly strong tingling sensation in my stomach. My legs also refuse to stand still and can hardly wait to feel the snow and skis under them again. At last this day came last weekend. On Thursday evening, all the ski equipment had already been packed and stuffed in the car ready to be on the mountain as early as possible the next day.
During the night I could barely sleep because of the excitement and anticipation. Shortly after 5 o'clock in the morning I set off from Lower Austria towards Ski amadé. Whilst driving, I realise that today will be a very special day!
The weather in the last few weeks has been giving most ski resorts a bit of a headache. Due to the warm temperatures it has not been possible to produce any snow for a while. However, the lift company in Ski amadé worked very hard last week to make the almost impossible, possible. The results of this hard work were more than impressive during my visit last weekend.
I am positively surprised by the good conditions of the slopes at Hauser Kaibling, for example. Of course, not all slopes are open yet, but that does not stand in the way of the skiing fun. The lift connection to Planai and Schladming is also already in operation.
In the gondola and up the mountain. Two more chairlifts up and about 20 minutes later, I'm already standing at the top of Hauser Kaibling at just over 2,000 meters. The sun slowly rises above the mountains and I enjoy this breath-taking panorama. While there is still some dense fog hanging over the Ennstal valley, the first rays of sunshine simply bring a broad grin to my face. I am intensely happy; pause for a moment and immediately realise again why I have missed these moments so much.
They just make my heart beat faster and the excitement is suddenly very noticeable again. Now it's time to take the first carving turns on the freshly groomed slopes.
After such a great weekend, packed with many beautiful memories, I return home to Lower Austria on Sunday. I start the new working week full of energy and am secretly already dreaming of the next ski days in Ski amadé.
The excitement continues, even after the start of the season, because in my opinion you just can't get enough of skiing and the magical moments on the mountain.
