From the Heizwerk ski touring car park in Alpendorf, the first steep uphill stretch is on the left edge of the slope. Following the edge of the slope, you come within sight of Hotel Stern. Here the route runs along the signposted ski tour route on the left edge of the slope towards the Kreistenalm.
At the Kreistenalm, cross the ski slope and turn left at the Gernkogelbahn top station, head uphill, following the signs towards the Obergaßalm. The route leads along the edge of the alpine pasture, descending a short distance in the direction of the button lift. Follow the lift line up the far right edge of the slope – past the Hubertus Chapel – to the Gernkogel.
