I have already explained why these piste tours are so great in the blog “Piste tour routes in Ski amadé”. So feel free to read it and maybe I can inspire you to try a piste tour too. But today I have completely different questions:
What piste tours are there in the Salzburger Sportwelt?
My third piste tour this year took me to the Salzburger Sportwelt, more precisely to Wagrain on the Rote 8er. The tour is approx. 4.4 km long and you climb just over 900 vertical meters before reaching the mountain station of the Rote 8er gondola. The website indicates an ascent time of approx. 2 hours, but this depends on the conditions and the physical abilities of each tourer.
How is the ascent organized?
Flachau / Wagrain are very practical ski areas in terms of access. From the Flachau highway exit, it's about a 5-minute drive to the lift station of the Rote 8er gondola. At the lift ticket office you can easily buy a ticket for the ascent if necessary (not relevant for season ticket holders). The great thing about the day ticket in the Salzburger Sportwelt is that one day ticket is valid on all ascent lanes, so it is also possible to go on several different piste tours in one day.
In this case, the ascent track of the piste tour runs exclusively along the ski slope or at least within sight of the ski slope. The gradient varies greatly from very flat to quite steep, where the second climbing aid may well be needed. Nevertheless, the track promises great grip and it is so wide that it is no problem if you want to walk side by side (in pairs). A relatively high snow bank separating the ascent track from the ski slope is very pleasant. Despite the proximity to the ski slope, the forest on the other side of the trail allows you to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. After a rather steep middle section, it becomes flatter again towards the end, crossing the piste once more and the last few meters to the end of the tour, at the summit station, are also done. As almost everywhere in Ski amadé, you can marvel at the breathtaking panorama here, which was definitely worth the climb.
Who is the tour suitable for?
This is definitely a tour for everyone. Firstly, because the route and the track are not difficult to follow, and secondly, because it is possible to end the ascent at any time and ski straight down the slope. This is also a big advantage if you don't have a lot of time or don't want to overexert yourself.
What highlights does the tour promise?
As a gifted skier, I think every tour should include an exciting descent. Anyone who skis in Ski amadé knows that the piste conditions are always excellent. In this case, with a difference in altitude of 900 meters, it's also a very long descent that runs over a very wide piste and is often not very busy.
Conclusion
A ski tour for everyone, whether you're a gifted climber, downhill skier or both. There is something for everyone on this tour. And if you want to find out more about the piste touring routes in the other regions, just take a look here: skiamade.com/piste-tour-routes
